Title Tuesday #5: GHC Heavyweight Championship

Hello ladies and gentlemen, I am your host, the Baumeister.  For many of us, we judge how good a wrestler’s legacy is based on how many titles they have, or haven’t won in their careers.  But, what about the heritage of those titles? That’s where we are going to look at here.  Not just who won the championship, where they won and how long they held it, but also interesting information unique to that championship’s history.

This week’s featured championship: GHC Heavyweight Championship

  4. Yoshihiro Takayama: Won September 7, 2002 at NOAH Navigation Over the Date Line 2002-Day 9 in Osaka, Japan. Held the title for 16 days.
    1. Holds the record for the shortest championship reign.
  5. Mitsuharu Misawa (2): Won September 23, 2002 at NOAH Great Voyage 2002 in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 159 days.
  6. Kenta Kobashi: Won March 1, 2003 at NOAH Navigate for Evolution 2003-Day 9 in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 735 days.
    1. Holds the record for the longest championship reign.
  7. Takeshi Rikio: Won March 5, 2005 at NOAH Navigate for Evolution 2005-Day 10 in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 245 days.
  8. Akira Taue: Won November 5, 2005 at NOAH 3rd Great Voyage 2005 in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 78 days.
  9. Jun Akiyama (2): Won January 22, 2006 at NOAH First Navigation 2006-Day 10in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 230 days.
  10. Naomichi Marufuji: Won September 9, 2006 at NOAH Shiny Navigation 2006-Day 10 in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 92 days.
    1. First champion to defend in ROH vs Nigel McGuinness September 16, 2006 at ROH Glory By Honor-Day 2 in New York City, NY
  11. Mitsuharu Misawa (3): Won December 10, 2006 at NOAH Great Voyage 2006 in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 448 days.
    1. Tied for most reigns as champion (3)
  12. Takeshi Morishima: Won March 2, 2008 at NOAH The Second Navigation ’08-Day 8 in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 188 days.
  13. Kensuke Sasaki: Won September 6, 2008 at NOAH Shiny Navigation ’08-Day 9 in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 176 days.
  14. Jun Akiyama: Won March 1, 2009 at NOAH The Second Navigation 2009-Day 7 in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 105 days.

    2. First champion to defend in wXw vs Claudio Castagnoli May 15, 2011 at wXw/NOAH Genesis in Germany in Oberhausen, Germany.
  17. Go Shiozaki (2): Won July 10, 2011 at NOAH Great Voyage 2011 in Tokyo Vol. 3 in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 196 days.
  18. Takeshi Morishima: Won January 22, 2012 at NOAH Great Voyage in Osaka 2012 in Osaka, Japan. Held the title for 371 days.
  19. Kenta: Won January 27, 2013 at NOAH Great Voyage 2013 in Osaka in Osaka, Japan. Held the title for 343 days.
  20. Takeshi Morishima (3): Won January 5, 2014 at NOAH New Year Navigation 2014 in Tokyo, Japan. Held the title for 34 days.
